If you have lost your test certificate, ask the test centre for a copy. You usually do not need to retake samfunnskunnskapsprøven simply because the paper is missing. Min side shows results, while Vitnemålsportalen allows valid digital sharing when the conditions are met.
Where can you get a copy of a lost test certificate?
The centre where you took your most recent test must issue a duplicate. A duplicate is a new copy of the official test certificate.
HK-dir, Direktoratet for høyere utdanning og kompetanse, is the Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills. It is responsible for the test system. The test regulations on certificates state who must produce the copy. Contact the adult education provider or test centre that organised the test.
Find the centre's name in the invitation, payment receipt or previous emails. HK-dir also points to contact information for test centres in the test portal. Use the centre's official website to check the contact address.
A missing paper is a documentation problem. Whether an older result meets current application requirements is a separate question. SamfunnPrep explains this in the guide to the validity of samfunnskunnskapsprøven.
The information in this guide was checked on 4 October 2026. It concerns recovering results and test certificates.
What is the difference between Min side and Vitnemålsportalen?
Min side shows your test results but does not let you print a test certificate. Vitnemålsportalen allows you to share results digitally with others.
The two services therefore serve different purposes:
| Service or document | What it can be used for | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Min side | View results and check contact details | You cannot print a test certificate there |
| Results transcript by email | See registered results | Does not replace the test certificate |
| Signed test certificate | Document the result on paper | Issued by the test centre |
| Vitnemålsportalen | View and share official results digitally | The test result must be linked to a registered fødselsnummer |
HK-dir's regulations say digital sharing through Vitnemålsportalen has the same validity as a certificate printed by the test centre. This does not mean an ordinary screenshot is the same as that sharing service.
To use Min side, both your email address and mobile number must be registered in the test system. Contact the centre if these details are missing or wrong.
You log into Vitnemålsportalen through ID-porten, the shared login for public services. BankID and MinID are examples of electronic identification. Follow the login link from HK-dir's results page.
Why is the result missing from Vitnemålsportalen?
A missing result may mean your identity has not been correctly linked to the test. It does not automatically mean you failed or that the result has disappeared.
HK-dir says you must be registered with a fødselsnummer in the test system to see results in Vitnemålsportalen. Fødselsnummer is a Norwegian national identity number.
If the fødselsnummer is registered but the result is missing, contact the test centre. They can check whether the number is linked to the candidate number you used during the test. A candidate number identifies you in the test system.
If the test was registered using a d-nummer or other details, ask what the centre has registered. A d-nummer is another type of Norwegian identity number. Do not assume a later change to fødselsnummer has already been updated in the test system.
Without a registered fødselsnummer, HK-dir refers you to the paper certificate that the centre prints and posts. Ask for a copy even if you cannot access digital sharing.
What if you took tests at several centres?
The centre where you took your most recent test must issue the duplicate. Mention tests taken elsewhere too, so they can check whether the results are combined.
HK-dir's regulations say the centre must ensure your results are on one certificate. If the same person has several candidate numbers, the centre must handle merging them. You should not try to alter the certificate yourself.
Example: You took samfunnskunnskapsprøven in one municipality and later Norskprøven in another. The social studies result is now missing from your certificate. Give the most recent centre both locations and approximate dates. Ask them to check the records.
A correction of registration is not a new assessment of your test answers either. Be clear that your enquiry concerns documentation or a missing link.
How to write to the test centre
Give the centre enough information to find the case and ask for a secure way to verify your identity. Start by sending a short description of the problem.
Include:
- The name you used when taking the test.
- Which test you took and approximately when.
- The test centre's name.
- Your candidate number, if available.
- Whether you need a copy, a correction or help with a missing portal result.
You can write:
I took [test name] at your centre around [date]. I have lost the certificate and would like a duplicate. I used the name [name]. My candidate number is [if known]. How can I verify my identity and have the certificate sent to the correct address?
If the result is missing digitally, add that you want them to check the link between the identity number and candidate number. Ask how any sensitive documents should be submitted before sending them.
What if the certificate never arrived by post?
First check how much time has passed and whether the centre has the right address. HK-dir's candidate page says results normally arrive after 2–4 weeks.
If this time has passed without a result, contact the centre. Say whether you also cannot find it on Min side. Ask them to check dispatch and registered contact details.
If you passed, you should receive a certificate. If you did not pass, you are not asking about a missing pass certificate. Ask which result is registered.
Before booking another attempt, clarify what is actually missing. SamfunnPrep's registration guide is useful if you need a new test.
How to share and store your result
Use the signed paper certificate or official sharing through Vitnemålsportalen when you need documentation. Check with the recipient how it should be submitted.
The paper certificate is valid only when signed by two people at the test centre. Check your name, test type and result when the copy arrives. Report errors instead of correcting them yourself.
Keep the certificate with the centre's contact details. SamfunnPrep's tools page can help you organise other practical tasks. If you really need another attempt: Ready to practise? Try SamfunnPrep for free.
