The time you need depends on prior knowledge, language and available study time. A six-week plan is a suggestion, not a guarantee of passing.

Choose the correct test and language first
Samfunnskunnskapsprøven, the Norwegian social studies test for immigrants, assesses knowledge of Norway and Norwegian society. It is available in 23 languages, selected at the test centre. It follows the 75-hour social studies curriculum. See HK-dir’s test-content guidance and candidate information.
For citizenship, the social studies result must be a pass in Norwegian, or you must meet the knowledge requirement through another accepted route such as statsborgerprøven. Spoken Norwegian is a separate requirement. Your application determines rules and exemptions: check UDI’s citizenship tests and permanent-residence guidance.

You are not told which four tasks are pilots, so treat every task carefully. Calculating 26 out of 38 as the pass percentage misrepresents the threshold. Cover the whole curriculum
HK-dir points to three subject areas in the learning resource: education, skills and working life; family, health and everyday life; Norway past and present. Use samfunnskunnskap.no as your foundation. An app’s category list or an older chapter list does not define the current official curriculum. We cannot promise that a particular topic supplies the most questions in your test.
A six-week plan you can adapt

Reallocate time according to your results. If you repeatedly misunderstand a question, work on vocabulary before speed. If one topic is familiar, give more time to another. Adjust the plan to evidence from your own answers rather than a promise about how fast other candidates pass.
Keep an error log, not just a score
For an incorrect answer, record the topic, why you chose it, the correct explanation and the curriculum section that resolves it. Separate knowledge gaps, unfamiliar vocabulary and misreading. Begin the next session by explaining the idea, then try another task on the topic. Use the log to choose what to revisit in your next session.
Use 50 explained practice questions, free sample questions and common test mistakes. A practice score can show progress, but these are independent tasks and the score cannot guarantee the official result.
Registration and final checks
HK-dir links to a national registration portal where you select county and centre. If entitled to one free test, contact your local centre to register. Municipalities set fees; HK-dir listed NOK 500–1,300 when checked. Verify your local price and date, choose the payment method and confirm that registration is complete. Before exam day, verify the invitation, address, time and valid physical ID requirement. Use the official sample to learn the interface. If you need accommodations, follow the centre’s and HK-dir’s instructions early.
