BankID is Norway’s national digital ID, issued through the banks. It is used to:
- Log in to online banking, NAV, Skatteetaten, Helsenorge, and UDI.
- Sign contracts electronically.
- Verify identity for many digital services.
BankID is issued once you have a Norwegian national identity number and a customer relationship with a Norwegian bank. Setup usually requires an in-person visit with a passport.
