Enova grants are money you can get back when you make your home more energy efficient. Enova is a state-owned enterprise managed by the Ministry of Climate and Environment. From 2025, you must apply and get approval before you start. Then you do the work and get a fixed amount back.
What is an Enova grant and who can get one?
Enova grants are money you have a right to when your work follows the rules. Enova does not decide who "deserves" the money. If you do an approved work correctly, you get the amount that is on the list.
The grant is for private individuals. You must own a home in Norway, or apply on behalf of a housing association or housing cooperative. The scheme is called Enovatilskuddet. The goal is to make it cheaper to save energy at home.
The home must be in use. Enova supports work in existing homes, not in brand new houses. Rules can be different for year-round homes and holiday homes, so read the terms for your work before you apply.
You log in with BankID. BankID is the digital ID that most people in Norway use in the bank and with the public sector. Without BankID or ID-porten you cannot apply yourself.
Which energy improvements give Enova grants in 2026?
Enova gives support to many works that cut energy use or give your own power. You can get money for:
- Liquid-to-water and air-to-water heat pumps
- Solar panel systems and solar collector systems
- Balanced ventilation with heat recovery
- Water-borne heating and accumulator tank
- Insulation of roof, attic and walls
- Energy-efficient windows and outer doors
- Smart hot water heater and battery for energy storage
- Energy advice, where an expert looks at your home
Many of these works cut your electricity bill. A heat pump can for example lower heating costs a lot. Solar panels make your own power that you don't have to buy.
Most rates are now 25 percent of costs, up to a fixed maximum amount. Here are some of the most common works:

For solar panel systems, power is measured in kWp (kilowatt-peak), that is how much the system can make at most. The bigger the system, the more power in kWh (kilowatt-hours) you make yourself over the year.
A simple example: if you have a solar panel system of 6 kW, you can get up to 15,000 kroner (6 × 2,500 kr). You always get the lowest of 25 percent of cost and maximum amount. Your bill will never be zero, but the grant cuts a lot.
How do you apply for an Enova grant?
You apply on enova.no with BankID, and you must apply before you start. This is the big change: since 1 September 2025, your application must be approved before you buy or build.
Here are the steps:
- Choose a registered and approved company for the work.
- Log in to enova.no with BankID and send your application.
- Wait for an answer. If your application is approved, you get a decision letter, that is a promise of money.
- Do the work and keep the invoice.
- Send in final report, then the money comes to your account.
You have 6 months from you get a decision letter to finish and ask for payment. If you don't make the deadline, you can lose the money. Payment happens automatically when the final report is approved.
Keep all papers. The invoice must show what was done and what it cost. Without a valid invoice from an approved company you don't get the money, even if you got a decision letter.
The pitfall nobody talks about
The most common mistake is to do the work first and apply after. It worked before, but not anymore. If you start before the application is approved, you get a rejection.
Three things are easy to miss:
- Order: Apply and get a decision letter before you order or sign.
- Expert: Many works must be done by an approved expert. If you do it yourself, the grant can fall away.
- 6-month deadline: Everything must be done and documented within the deadline.
Enova also changes the list of works from year to year. Some schemes are removed or changed. So you should never trust old amounts you find on the internet.
You can apply for several works at the same time. Then you send one application per work. Support amounts are added together, so a heat pump and a solar panel system can give good total support.
Can you get extra support as well?
Yes, some municipalities give their own support to energy works on top of Enova support. This varies a lot from place to place, so ask your municipality. Then the total bill can be even lower.
Husbanken usually does not give grants for such works, but can offer loans to renovate and upgrade energy in the home. Check both your municipality and Husbanken if you are planning a bigger job.
