Registration for Norskprøven in winter 2026 runs 26–30 October, with tests from 30 November to 4 December. Autumn results arrive on 20 October. You can therefore check your result before deciding whether to take another test.

When does winter test registration open?

Registration opens 26 October at 09.00 and closes 30 October at 23.59. The dates were checked as of 4 October 2026 with HK-dir, Direktoratet for høyere utdanning og kompetanse, the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills. HK-dir’s registration page gives both the opening time and deadline.

The calendar covers Norskprøven A1–B2. Your municipality sets the exact test day and which parts it offers. Not every test centre uses the full period.

Winter results therefore arrive after New Year. Allow for this if you plan to submit an application before January. HK-dir’s calendar distinguishes the test period from the result date.

What should you do with your autumn result?

You can appeal the writing test result until 17 November 2026. Results for speaking, reading and listening cannot be appealed. Complaints about errors during the test have a separate deadline.

An appeal may leave your writing result unchanged, improve it or lower it. If you register for the winter test while waiting, registration is binding. You must still pay even if the appeal later improves your result and you cancel the new test. This follows HK-dir’s guidance on appeals and a new test.

When is registration valid?

You are registered when you have completed registration and received confirmation by sms and email. Check this before the deadline.

  • Choose the parts you need and the right level for writing and speaking.
  • Enter the correct address and choose a payment method.
  • Contact the test centre promptly if you need accommodations, no later than three days after registration.

On SamfunnPrep we explain Norwegian levels for residence and citizenship. You can also find an overview of Norwegian citizenship. Norskprøven tests language and is a different test from samfunnskunnskapsprøven, the social studies test.

Can you register before moving to Norway?

You can live abroad when registering, but Norskprøven cannot be taken abroad. Some test centres accept these candidates. Agree this with the centre before registering or booking your trip.
