The government proposes NOK 620 million for cheaper monthly passes in 2027. The aim is to keep the price reduction of approximately NOK 100 from the 2026 state budget. The proposal was presented on 7 October 2026 and has not been adopted.
Is this another NOK 100 off today’s price?
No. This is a continuation of an existing scheme. The government proposes funding for county authorities so they can maintain lower monthly-pass prices. The money would not be paid into your account.
Samferdselsdepartementet, Norway’s Ministry of Transport, describes the proposal in the state-budget overview for Rogaland. The national scheme is described there, although the page also includes local measures.
If your pass already includes this price reduction, the proposal does not automatically mean another NOK 100 off the price you pay now. You must check the transport operator’s actual ticket price for 2027.
If you are new to Norway, SamfunnPrep’s public transport guide explains terms such as zones and period tickets. A monthly pass applies to a particular area and period.
What about the extra reduction of around NOK 160?
The additional reduction discussed in 2026 is a separate temporary scheme. It came on top of the reduction of approximately NOK 100.
On 11 June, Samferdselsdepartementet explained that the extra reduction of around NOK 160 applies for six months. Timing varies between counties. In some places, the period may therefore extend a few months into 2027. Read the ministry’s explanation of allocation and timing.
This is not a promise of a combined NOK 260 discount in all twelve months of 2027. Follow local announcements about both the start and end of the temporary reduction.
Will monthly passes be equally cheap everywhere?
No. A state support scheme does not create one national ticket price. The price still depends on where you travel, the zones and your ticket category. Student and adult tickets may have different conditions.
Example: You see news about monthly passes costing NOK 100 less and an offer in the transport app. Do not subtract NOK 100 from the app price again. Check whether that price already includes the reduction. This example is a price check, not a calculation of your savings.
Jernbanedirektoratet, Norway’s Railway Directorate, manages the grant scheme for the counties. The counties apply for state funding. You should not send a personal application there to receive a NOK 100 payment.
What should you check before planning for 2027?
- Find the price for your zones and ticket category with your local transport operator.
- Check whether a temporary reduction has its own end date.
- Follow final budget decisions and local price decisions.
