Places with a story
Ikornneset fornminnepark

Ikornneset fornminnepark presents the early history of Gjemnes through remains in a coastal landscape near Høgset. Burial mounds made of stone, traces of fields and the nearby Einneset farmstead allow visitors to consider how people lived, cultivated land and commemorated their dead before written local histories.
The place2
The municipal heritage plan records roughly ten burial mounds made of stone at Ikornneset, together with smaller burial mounds made of stone, cultivation traces and old boundaries. They are coastal burial mounds made of stone built from rounded stones, with the two largest about fifteen metres across and two metres high. The surviving ground shapes are evidence to observe carefully rather than climb or rearrange.
History and local connections2
The municipality broadly assigns the burial mounds made of stone to the Iron Age, while acknowledging uncertainty about their precise age. At nearby Einneset, an excavation by Trondheim's university museum in 1965 identified house remains, a burial, field areas and boundaries. That neighbouring farmstead provides an important connection between burial monuments and settlement history.
What to look for21
Read the landscape as a group of related places instead of expecting a reconstructed prehistoric village. The heritage plan links Ikornneset, Einneset and historical coastal fishing structures. Recent local proposals seek improved interpretation and wider recreational use, but proposed facilities should not be assumed to be completed or available.
Planning a visit12
Consult the local association's current information about the Høgset cultural and activity park for local access and ongoing work. Keep to established routes and leave stones and deposits undisturbed. Detailed accessibility and visitor-facility arrangements need confirmation locally, since the published project document describes planned improvements as well as existing heritage.
