Hufthamartunet
Hufthamartunet preserves a coastal farmstead on northern Huftarøy, near Austevoll's Hufthamar ferry landing. Its buildings show how fishing and agriculture supported the same household, and how an old smokehouse gradually became part of a larger domestic arrangement.

The oldest dwelling is a seventeenth-century smokehouse. A central open hearth provided warmth and light, with smoke escaping through an opening in the roof. This arrangement helps explain everyday life before chimneys and larger windows changed rural interiors. A later kitchen and connecting passage were joined to the old house, allowing successive building phases to remain visible together.
History and local connections1
Kringom dates the addition of a moved storehouse to 1815 and the newer dwelling, Nyastova, to 1854. The farm also contains buildings connected with livestock, storage and food production. The old dwelling remained a home until 1970, giving the place an unusually direct connection between early building traditions and living memory in Austevoll.
