Places with a story
Mineralsamlingen i Iveland
Mineralsamlingen i Iveland displays minerals from the Iveland and Evje area in Åkle, the village centre building. It offers an approachable way to connect colourful specimens with the geology and mineral history of the landscape around the municipality.
The place1
This is a local collection: the municipality explicitly identifies its specimens with the Iveland and Evje region. The display therefore gives visitors a focused introduction to nearby mineral resources rather than an attempt to catalogue every rock type. The entrance cabinet combines selected minerals with a narrative about the area.
History and local connections1
The exhibition opened in the new Åkle building on 25 March 2015. A sound guide was added in July 2025, extending the interpretation beyond labels and printed material. The municipality also provides illustrated brochures in several languages, allowing the exhibition's local story to be explored at different levels of detail.
What to look for1
Begin with the entrance cabinet and sound guide before looking through the main display. The fifteen-minute introduction is designed for adults with limited prior knowledge and explains selected specimens as well as the first exhibition window. Comparing shapes and colours becomes more useful when those visible qualities are linked with the accompanying explanations.
Planning a visit1
The collection's access follows the opening arrangements of the centre's shop rather than a separate museum timetable. Consult the municipal exhibition page for current access and available visitor material. The guide can be reached through the entrance QR code, and the municipality publishes brochures online for visitors who want to prepare or read further afterward.
