Places with a story
Oddentunet

Oddentunet preserves a historic farm and travel stop in Narjordet, Os. Its decorated timber house connects rural life with trade between Dalarna and Røros, while a newer interpretation building helps explain the wider mining economy around the farm.
About the place1
The protected farm remains in its original setting. Its main house, dating from the early nineteenth century, is known for unusual interior painting and skilled joinery. Exterior boarding, the entrance portal and window framing reflect influences from urban architecture in Trøndelag, giving the rural house a distinctive character.
History and local connections12
Odden served travellers along the route between Sweden and Røros, offering accommodation, trade and postal functions. These connections place the farm within a wider network rather than an isolated agricultural story. Os museum, established in 1983, preserves buildings at their original locations, and Oddentunet belongs within that local heritage approach.
What to look for13
Look for the decorative painting and woodworking on a guided visit, then compare the older farmyard with the interpretation building opened in 2025. Its exhibition explains the farm and Narjordet's role in the Røros copperworks economy. The new structure was built on the site of a former working building using local construction skills.
Plan your visit123
Check the museum and Os municipality for current guiding and events. Summer visits are normally guided, while other arrangements need confirmation. The newer building provides warmth, water and toilets and supports use beyond the old summer pattern, but these facilities do not by themselves imply unrestricted year-round opening of the historic interiors.
