Places with a story
Trysil Bygdetun

Trysil Bygdetun gathers historic buildings from across Trysil on a hillside near the town centre. Farmhouses, working buildings and rural objects make this a place to explore how people organised home, work and community life in the forest district.
About the place2
The collection includes twenty-one buildings representing eighteenth- and nineteenth-century life. Different building types show that a rural household depended on storage, livestock, seasonal work and outlying resources as well as its main house. The farmyard setting allows visitors to compare these functions at a human scale.
History and local connections13
The museum was founded in 1901. It is now part of Anno's Trysil Engerdal museum, which cares for collections and buildings across the two communities. Structures moved from different parts of Trysil preserve local variation, while their arrangement creates a shared place for interpreting the district's history.
What to look for13
Walk between the timber houses and compare their size, construction and purpose. Guided visits and exhibitions add the stories of people and farm life behind the buildings. The museum is also a local meeting place, with summer activities organised alongside associations and volunteers rather than only static displays.
Plan your visit123
The operator states that the outdoor area is accessible throughout the year, while ordinary museum opening is in summer. School and larger-group tours can be arranged separately. Check the current programme before travelling for open interiors or a particular activity; municipal pages may retain earlier seasonal dates. The hillside is a short walk from central Trysil.
