Vardø is a compact port town on Vardøya, facing the Barents Sea. The municipality also includes the fishing village of Kiberg and a treeless part of Varangerhalvøya, giving it both an island town and an open mainland landscape.
Fish landings, processing and repair workshops tie everyday life to the harbour. Kiberg is particularly shaped by fishing, while Vardø also has museums and art in its streets.
