Namsos stands where the river from the forest districts meets the sea. The town at the Namsen’s mouth provides services and healthcare for Namdalen, with an identity still closely tied to sawmills and timber.
Today’s municipality extends from Namdalseid’s farming districts to Otterøya and Jøa. Its urban centre is one part of a broader landscape of fjords, forests and farmland.
