Vang is upper Valdres: small livestock farms along Vangsmjøse and the valleys, surrounded by extensive mountains around Bygdin and Tyin. E16 across Filefjell gives the narrow settlement corridor an important role in travel between eastern and western Norway.
Mountain hotels, visitor facilities and holiday homes make tourism important, while grass production and grazing animals keep the farmed landscape in use. Through traffic, mountain holidays and agriculture meet within the limited space of the valley floor.
