Benefits in asylum reception centres would continue without price adjustment in 2027 under the government's budget proposal. This means the same nominal level. As of 18 October 2026, it is a proposal that Parliament must consider.
What does “without price adjustment” mean?
It means support is not increased to follow changes in prices. If prices rise, the same number of kroner may buy less. This explains the term, rather than forecasting a particular family's loss.
The Ministry of Justice and Public Security's 2027 budget proposal says reception-centre benefits will continue without price adjustment. The government cites costs and benefit levels compared with other countries.
The proposal concerns support for asylum reception-centre residents. It should not be read as a general rule for all refugee benefits after settlement. SamfunnPrep's guide to the asylum process explains the background.
What support can you receive in a reception centre today?
Utlendingsdirektoratet, UDI, Norway's immigration directorate, says residents entitled to reception accommodation receive a basic allowance. You do not need to apply for that allowance. The amount depends on factors including your case status and the type of reception centre.
This appears on UDI's financial assistance page. It also explains that reception-centre staff can provide information and help with questions about the scheme.
Check which scheme actually applies to you. Two people in different centres or with different statuses may have different conditions. The budget announcement does not specify one common rate for everyone.
Can you apply for help with extra expenses?
UDI describes separate possibilities for applying for additional assistance, including necessary healthcare, glasses and textbooks. A proposed continuation of the basic level does not settle all such questions in your case.
Ask your centre for help finding the correct application and required documentation. Prepare questions about:
- Which expense you need help with.
- Which form to use.
- Which receipts or other papers to attach.
UDI assesses whether expenses can be covered. Applying does not guarantee support.
What should you follow before January 2027?
Follow the state budget decision and practical information from UDI and your reception centre. Your current payment does not change just because a news report describes a proposal.
Keep payment notices and ask if you do not understand the calculation. Settlement in a municipality creates a different situation from living in a reception centre. SamfunnPrep's settlement explanation and permanent residence topic provide background about the next steps.
