History and local connections1
Veterans established an association after demobilisation in 1945 and later built a meeting hut to keep the history alive. A museum foundation followed in 1993. The museum opened in 1994. Harald V, the king of Norway, performed the opening ceremony on 15 October, fifty years after the first officers arrived from Britain. The building itself had housed German guards connected with Russian prisoners of war and was used for questioning local residents.
