Places with a story
Trollkyrkja

Trollkyrkja is a group of limestone caves reached by a mountain walk in Hustadvika. Waterfalls and pale stone chambers make the destination memorable, but the journey through Trolldalen and the changing weather above the tree line are also important parts of the experience.
The place1
Morotur describes several cave entrances with different approaches. The first opens into an S-shaped passage about forty metres long, ending at a waterfall in a larger marble chamber. Another entrance gives a different view of the falling water, while a third leads into narrower limestone formations. They are caves in an active natural landscape, not a built visitor hall.
History and local connections1
The route guide identifies the place as a well-established walking destination in the former Fræna municipality, now part of Hustadvika. Its significance comes from the rock and water rather than a single dated historical event. The contrasting dark passages and bright stone help explain why the caves have attracted successive generations of walkers.
What to look for1
Follow the marked approach through woodland and then into rougher terrain. The cave waterfall offers a different way to see the mountain's watercourses, and lakes above the caves extend the landscape experience. Entry routes differ in exposure and darkness; viewing one chamber does not establish that every passage is suitable for your party.
Planning a visit1
The county-supported route guide recommends a torch, helmet, good walking boots, extra clothing, food and drink. It estimates roughly three hours for the return outing without breaks. Check current route information and weather before setting out, and allow for colder, windier conditions than at the start.
