Lyngen lies between Ullsfjorden and Lyngenfjorden, with the Lyngen Alps forming a steep spine through the peninsula. Farms and communities follow the shore and the few open valley mouths; the mountains both support tourism and constrain settlement.
Furuflaten has an industrial cluster including plastics and engineering, while fishing, livestock farming and tourism shape other communities. The peninsula is also a manufacturing district, even though mountain tourism often dominates its public image.
