Lesja has an open farming valley between extensive mountain areas, with dairying, grazing and fodder production as important livelihoods. Westwards, Bjorli takes on a different character through skiing and extensive holiday housing.
E136 and Raumabanen follow the valley between eastern Norway and Romsdalen. The municipality is a transport corridor, while much of its mountain terrain lies in protected areas with wild reindeer.
