Helfo (Helseøkonomiforvaltningen, the Norwegian Health Economics Administration) is part of the Directorate of Health and runs the financial side of the health service. Helfo is responsible for:
- The fastlege (GP) scheme — registration goes through Helfo.
- The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for travel in the EU/EEA.
- Reimbursement of subsidised (“blue prescription”) medicines.
- Payments to providers.
