Fastlege (literally “fixed doctor”) is your primary care physician and first point of contact in the Norwegian health system. Anyone living in Norway and registered in the National Population Register is entitled to one. The fastlege:

  • Treats common health problems.
  • Refers you to specialists and hospitals.
  • Issues sick notes.
  • Manages chronic conditions.

You can change your fastlege up to twice per calendar year on Helsenorge.
