## Key takeaways

- The period ends on 20 November 2026 Ask your teacher whether your teaching centre is taking part in the autumn pilot of reading and listening tasks.
- Your test centre registers you Participation is arranged through municipal adult education or providers with municipal agreements; learners below A1 must not participate.
- The pilot is not the ordinary examination The language-level result appears on screen, but it is less certain and must be kept separate from the ordinary examination process.

Norskprøven is piloting reading and listening tasks until 20 November 2026. Norwegian-language learners can ask their teacher whether their test centre is taking part. This is task testing, not the ordinary Norskprøven examination.

The autumn period runs from **28 September to 20 November 2026**, according to HK-dir, Direktoratet for høyere utdanning og kompetanse, Norway’s Directorate for Higher Education and Skills. This information was checked on 2 November 2026. The practical guidance was last updated on 23 October.

On SamfunnPrep, you can find more explanations about tests and everyday life in the [article directory](https://samfunnprep.no/en/articles). This news item concerns the ongoing testing of language tasks.

## Who can take part in the pilot?

Participation must be arranged through a municipal adult education centre or a provider with a municipal agreement covering teaching and test administration. The test centre registers you, and your teacher tells you which tests to take.

HK-dir’s [practical information about the pilot](https://hkdir.no/voksenopplaering/norsk-og-samfunnskunnskap/om-norskprovene/norskproven-a1-b2/pilotering/praktisk-informasjon-til-provestader-som-skal-delta-i-pilotering) states that learners below A1 must not participate. The pilot needs participants at different levels from A1 to B2. You therefore do not need to be a strong Norwegian speaker already.

An open national pilot period does not mean that every teaching centre has a place for you. Ask your teacher whether your centre is participating and when you could attend.

## What will you test?

You will try out **reading and listening tasks** to help HK-dir develop Norskprøven. The pilot does not test writing or spoken communication.

You will receive tasks of varying difficulty. The aim is not to answer everything correctly. Difficult tasks therefore do not, in themselves, mean that your attempt has gone badly.

According to HK-dir’s [information for participants](https://prove.hkdir.no/pilotering-av-lytte-og-leseoppgaver), you must use a PC. Your teacher provides your username and password. You must answer independently, without help or aids. This allows the results to be used to investigate how difficult the tasks are.

## What does your result mean?

A language-level result appears on screen when you submit. HK-dir explains that this result is slightly less certain than a result calculated after the pilot has been analysed.

The immediate feedback is based on a selection of tasks whose difficulty is already known. It is not based on all the tasks you have just completed. The result may be useful when discussing further practice with your teacher.

The pilot is not available in the private-candidate portal used for ordinary registration. Keep participation in the pilot separate from registration for the ordinary examination. We have a separate news item about [registration for the winter 2026 Norskprøven](https://samfunnprep.no/en/nyheter/norskproven-vinter-2026-pamelding-oktober).

## What should you ask your teacher now?

First, ask whether your teaching centre is participating before the period ends on 20 November. Then clarify the practical arrangements:

- On which day, and where, should you attend?
- Which reading and listening tests suit your level?
- How will you receive your login details?
- How can you use the result in your further Norwegian-language learning?

The deadline applies to the national pilot period. Arrange a time with your teaching centre well before the final day.
