Elevundersøkelsen 2026 runs from 19 October to 13 November. Schools must conduct the survey in certain grades, but answering is voluntary for your child. Public results will be released on 10 December.

## When is Elevundersøkelsen held in 2026?

Pupils can answer in the classroom **19 October–13 November 2026**. This is the period given by Udir, Utdanningsdirektoratet, the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training, as of 4 October 2026. The school will explain its own survey date.

The survey concerns learning and well-being. Pupils answer questions about bullying, motivation and teacher support, among other things. It measures how pupils experience everyday school life and is not a knowledge test.

| Event | Date in 2026 |
| --- | --- |
| Classroom survey | 19 October–13 November |
| Results for schools with login access | 7 December |
| Public results | 10 December |

The dates appear in [Udir’s Elevundersøkelsen calendar](https://www.udir.no/tall-og-forskning/brukerundersokelser/elevundersokelsen/snarveier-elevundersokelsen/viktige-datoer-elevundersokelsen/). Results from this autumn’s survey are therefore not ready yet. Figures from earlier years do not show what pupils will answer in 2026.

## Does your child have to answer?

No. **Participation is voluntary for the pupil**, and your child can skip questions. This also applies when the school is required to conduct the survey.

The school’s duty covers grade 7, grade 10 and vg1, the first year of upper secondary education. It can also conduct the survey in other grades from grade 5 to vg3. Udir explains the distinction in [the purpose of Elevundersøkelsen](https://www.udir.no/tall-og-forskning/brukerundersokelser/elevundersokelsen/om-elevundersokelsen/).

## What should the school tell you?

The school must inform parents of pupils under 18 before the survey. Information about the processing of personal data must also be sent beforehand.

- Ask when the class will answer and how the questions will be explained to your child.
- Ask for explanations of words your child does not understand.
- Consult Udir’s information in several languages if Norwegian is difficult.

Pupils do not give their names, and answers are not linked to personal identity numbers. However, Udir warns that answers in small groups can sometimes be recognised. Strict rules therefore govern how results are displayed. This is explained in [Udir’s information for pupils and parents](https://www.udir.no/tall-og-forskning/brukerundersokelser/elevundersokelsen/om-elevundersokelsen-til-elever-og-foreldre/).

## What can you do if your child is unhappy at school?

Contact the class teacher or headteacher now. You do not need to wait for the survey or December’s results to explain your child’s everyday experience.

The survey helps the school follow up its learning environment. A conversation about your child gives the school a specific situation to investigate. SamfunnPrep explains [children’s rights when bullied at school](https://samfunnprep.no/en/articles/mobbing-i-skolen-norge) in a separate guide.
